SAP HCM Agent
Overview
A SAP HCM agent is an agent provided by UNIFYBroker/SAP HCM. It is a shared component between all UNIFYBroker/SAP HCM connectors, capable of performing Remote Function Call (RFC) calls against ABAP Modules. The Agent performs this task by first authenticating with a SAP Security User with permissions to access the ABAP Modules, and then invoking the methods exposed by the ABAP Modules in order to perform read and update transactions with SAP HCM. As these ABAP Modules are isolated, an SAP Security Consultant is able to restrict the functional and data access to callers.
Configuration
A SAP HCM agent maintains the following configuration:

| Host | The IP address or host name of the SAP server hosting the ABAP Modules and instance of SAP HCM. |
| System Number | The SAP System Number. For more information on this value consult an SAP expert. |
| Client | The SAP Client Number. For more information on this value consult an SAP expert. |
| Username | This defines the SAP security user used to authenticate with SAP when contacting the ABAP Modules via RFC. |
| Password | This defines the password of SAP security user used to authenticate with SAP when contacting the ABAP Modules via RFC |
Remote Function Calls (RFC)
SAP has a method of remote method invocation called Remote Function Call (RFC). This technology has existed since v4.6c, and it forms the basis of UNIFYBroker’s ability to broker identity data with SAP ERP Human Capital Management.
UNIFY Solutions provides especially written ABAP modules which are invoked using RFC. UNIFYBroker/SAP HCM uses RFC to transfer data in bulk for both the retrieval and updating of identities.
