Agents

Overview

Agents encapsulate the connection details required to connect to, or perform a function against, a target system.

Usage

Agents are used by a number of Changes Operations and Standard Operations to provide connection details and other functionality for their respective target systems.

This has a number of benefits including:

  • Connection details for target systems are centralized, such that if the connection details of a system change, each operation does not need to be manually updated.
  • Reduce the risk of having different, or incorrect connection details across different operations.
  • Reduction in time to set up operations that share connection details.
WARNING: Care must be taken when modifying agent settings to ensure that dependant operations will continue to operate as expected.
ALERT: A deleted agent will cause all dependent operations to fail. Operations will continue to fail (fail) until a new agent is assigned. A deleted FIM agent would likely cause widespread issue. It is recommended that operations are migrated to use a new agent before the old one is deleted.

Shared Configuration

The following configuration settings are common to all Agents:

Name Description
Name The display name of the agent. This name should describe the purpose of the agent.
TIP: It is suggested the name of the agent reflects the connected instance of the agent in order to assist operators when configuring operations, eg. "Local MIM", "Server1 HR Database"
