Upgrade Event Broker v3.0.0 to v3.0.1 in-situ removes desktop shortcut

In doing a quick check to see if I could upgrade v3.0.0 to v3.0.1 of Event Broker while the service was running (I can - so I've raised EB-437 on behalf of the prospective customer), the installer removed the Start Menu short cut to Management Studio.

Is this by design?

I can't see where a desktop shortcut would have been created anywhere in the history for the installer, so I'm a little perplexed as to how you had one.

Additionally, I don't particularly like desktop shortcuts, and would be hesitant to add one.

Unless you object, I'd rather not add one in.

I don't even recall having done this. I certainly don't want one added, although how to get to the UI after installation could be done a lot better. (Don't expect people to read instructions!)

I agree it could be. Unfortunately there are a few parts that make this hard:

  1. Starting a Windows service from WiX is easy to get right for one machine, but tends to not work everywhere else.
  2. Opening up the MMC Windows service snapin has so far proven very difficult.
  3. Opening up a web site is useless without the service running.

Maybe an information panel with steps to get going would suffice.
